In 1999, Bitumar made the decision to expand the company’s operations toward the U.S. Eastern seaboard.

Baltimore was then chosen due to its seaport and its easy access to the Atlantic coast.

The new plant began its operations in 2000.  Originally, the plant specialized in producing asphalt for the shingle and roofing industries.

However, since 2007, the plant also produces a full range of asphalt grades for paving.
